Sneakers shoes have an interesting history. They got this name because it allowed the wearer sneak in. Sneakers, initially were made from canvas which is a durable plain-woven fabric but now all sort of materials are used to design and manufacture. The origin of sneakers can be traced back to the late 18th century, when people wore rubber soled soles called plimsolls but they were pretty crude—for one thing, there was no right foot or left foot. Sneakers went global in the second quarter of the twentieth century, when a German named Adi Dassler created a sneaker that he named after himself Adidas. This brand became the most popular in the athletic shoe world. The four times Olympic Gold Medalist winner Jessie Owens wore these shoes to win the medals. This encouraged Rudi Adi's brother start another famous sports shoe company called Puma.



In the second half of the twentieth century, kids began wearing them as fashion statements. More and more teens followed the fad after watching James Dean in sneakers in Rebel Without a Cause, a popular hit of those times.The popular comic series showed Archie, Reggie and Jughead wearing sneakers, which identified sneakers with the casual wear.
